My poetry pamphlet Dove, Deferred

My pamphlet Dove, Deferred, featuring 23 poems written between 2008 and 2020, was printed on 3rd November, and is the first title in my burgeoning small press project The Z Press.

Concerning wildlife, childhood memories, and loss, Dove, Deferred also contains the first poems I wrote after the death of my father in 2018.

These poems of moonlight, stars, "unravelling skies" and winter sun inhabit liminal landscapes, the "frozen folklore" of caves, "the bridges, bends and viaducts" of railways, the elusive trails of wild animals, and the moors and valleys of my home county of Yorkshire.

Some of the poems have been published in Allegro Poetry, and In Posse Review.

Dove, Deferred is available directly from myself (email caterpillarpoetry@gmail.com) and will soon be available to loan from various library services, and if possible at various book shops.  You can hear some excerpts from the pamphlet here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZXTjbE8ITSI  and here   https://www.mixcloud.com/SimonZonenblick/some-poems-from-my-new-pamphlet-dove-deferred/

URBAN FOX

Bullet of russet muscularity,

knee high and up to your eyes in dandelion,

most feline of your kind,

the always searching canid,

sinewy and taut,

prodigal child of the copse:

no sooner had you brushed against a fence

emerging from sedge as if to prove,

“I still exist,”

than the glimpse of you was gone —

a second’s shred in which to see that tail, ash-white, copper-coalesced

trailing like a newly lit cigar.
